Planning Monksville Reservoir

This Sunday morning I am going to head out to Monksville Reservoir to see if I can catch my old nemesis, the walleye.

I brooded over the topography map during the week and eventually decided my top target area will be (A). I feel the accessibility to the deep water as well as the shallow area will serve me well.  My second priority will be (B).  Based on the topography map, it would appear it is a steep shore line with possible a possible rocky drop.  Again, this location is accessible to deep water.  When I first looked at the map, I thought the hill would be (C) my first target.  But the more I think about it, I now believe 30 feet will be too deep to hold any sort of bait fish for the walleye.  But I'll check it out anyway for no other reason to test out my depth finder.

Any thoughts?

  1. I see this page is visited quite frequently, so I thought I would let everyone know that Point(A) and Point (B) were total duds. Point (C) showed some real promise on the depth finder and if I went back, I would fish the area first and early in the morning.

  2. Did you catch any thing at c? I visited the lake today and tried to catch some crappie but no success but had one bite. Yesterday saw a few anglers returning with some crappie from under the bridge.

    1. Hey Sameer,

This was back in June 2012 and I really did not have a lot of luck fishing in the southwest corner, maybe 2 or 3 rock bass. Bridge pilings are always good for some crappie, so I would definitely check that out. Good luck!

I should be heading out this weekend to the Delaware River for some walleye, so I should have a long overdue update this weekend.
